Industry Summary
The Paperboard Mills industry is experiencing greater than average employment growth as of late. In 2014 the government estimated a total of 29,519 workers, then just 12 months later it had climbed to 30,839, an increase of 4.47%. With OSHA reported accident rates of less than that of the the Pulp Paper and Paperboard Mills Industry as a whole, things have been relatively safe over the past five years.
OSHA investigators arrived in Deridder, LA on Wednesday, February 8th 2017 and began an accident investigation which had occured previously at Packaging Corporation Of America. A 33 year old Welder had been killed when the three employees are killed in a tank explosion

NarrativeAt 11:15 a.m. on February 8, 2017, three employees were climbing down from an elevated pipe rack. As they were climbing down, the stainless steel Foul Condensate tank exploded, striking the employees and tossing their bodies 200 yards from the explosion. All three employees were killed.
On Wednesday, February 8th 2017 OSHA reps took a report of a serious accident in Deridder, LA which had occured previously at Packaging Corporation Of America. A 33 year old man working as a Welder was killed on the job when the three employees are killed in a tank explosion
